Hi, I'm octagami, a creator, admin and developer for OMM.

This summer I decided to start coding a ground up rewrite of the Towny plugin.

Towny is the backbone of our survival PvE experience. The unfortunate reality is that the original Towny plugin halted active development back in 2012. It's part of the reason why Towny servers are now few and far between.

I have long been maintaining a fork of Towny for OMM. I've made plenty of changes, but none have been major. The sheer size and complexity of the Towny code base discouraged attempts to add any major new features.

In the process of trying to improve our experience for new players this summer, I was forced to face the fact that Towny was the weakest link in our PvE offering. I made the decision to take on a project I knew would be a monumental effort: Writing our own version of Towny from the ground up. To do this, I needed to reach feature parity, while maintaining backwards compatibility with the old Towny, so that the transition would be nearly seamless.

Two months and a few hundred hours of coding later, I now have a new Towny plugin for OMM that's roughly beta quality. The next task is to make sure it's fully tested so that we catch any bugs before it goes live to all servers. The best way to do that is a public beta.

Sometime this weekend Monday we'll be opening a public beta server. We'd like you all to try out the new features, report any bugs, and give your feedback. If you want to have fun while doing it, I suppose that's OK too. We're now live!

This rewrite will enable us refine add features to Towny based on community feedback and suggestions. In order to prove that point, I added (and improved) a long requested feature. Town and Nation wars.

Although the effort for the rewrite was extensive, much of the time went into rebuilding features we already had. Despite that, I did put time into some additional features, to help make the rewrite "feel" new.

    New features

    • Interactive map UI with plot claiming /imap or /map ui
    • UI for browsing nations, towns, and residents /nation list, /town list, /resident list
    • Nations are now global (cross server)
    • % tax of residents job income directly to town bank /t set taxes [%]
    War features
    • War UI for declaring, joining, surrendering /town war, /nation war
    • Town vs Town and Nation vs Nation wars
    • Peaceful/Neutral/Aggressive status for towns/nations /t set diplomacy [value]
    • Declare a war, allies can choose to join your side (or not)
    • Enemies can declare join your war on the opposing side
    Planned features (not in beta)
    • War kill/death tracking
    • War win conditions
    • War spoils (opt in)
    • Town blacklists (bar players from entering your town)
    • Additional UI menus for town/nation management
    • Town shop registry

In regards to this... I am the mayor of "Skyrim" (town) on Sol and I am in a Nation, but I also own a town, Aetheria, and a nation on Altair, what would happen there?

Just to clarify; Skyrim is a Legacy Town, and before the changes I owned the town on Altair and thus I still own it.

For every town you belong to, you can have a nation. They can be different nations, or the same nation. Either works.

However, at any given time, you are only in the nation for the server you are in. You will only see nation chat for the nation your town is in on the server you're on. The way around this is to join the same nation on every server you play on.

It may sound confusing, but think of it this way. Whatever server you're logged into, pretend none of the others exist. At that point you have one town and one nation. That's how it's treated.

Alright thanks for the explanation @octagami

Could it be possible to have an command so that mayors could disable fly in their town?
    5. KidstarGenetics
I mean tfly is allowed, unless you are in war. Then flying would be disabled at that time.
    6. ETMew2348
      We should have

    7. Trajan
No, I'm talking about disabling the fly of people who come into your town when your town is not at war
    8. KidstarGenetics
That's like saying get rid of fly in settlement worlds in general.
    9. Trajan
I'm saying make it an option for mayors, for their town.
    10. EnderTeddy
Why should they make it an option for mayors to turn off fly when town is not at war? That's like asking for the /fly command to be completely disabled overall. Something which would cause a lot of players to want to quit. Making it an option for a mayor when their town is actually at war is something I'd like, but not for when it's not at war, as /fly wouldn't actually give an advantage after all.

The solution I have in mind is for fly to auto disable the moment you cross into a town plot of a town you are at war with.

We'll also still have the check that disables fly if you actually damage someone. So that would somewhat over the case of PvPing the wilderness. I think we'll also want to add a cooldown for re-enabling fly in that case.

tldr; Restrictions to fly only for wars/PvP. No changes to flight for non-PvP cases

Please do explain this, I tried to understand but I couldn't... You probably just misspelled or forgot a word but for me that word must've been essential as I get nothing out of the sentence as it is.
    13. i0range
If the person you're fighting does not have /fly enabled (either due to lower than Skylander or just has it disabled..) and you hit them, your own /fly will automatically disable. That's already in place from long ago however, nothing new.
    14. EnderTeddy
Yeah I understand that, but I just wanted to know what he meant by that specific sentence.
    15. WarlordGanti
ender he is referring to when two people who are in warring towns/nations find each other in the wastelands/wilderness. that fly is disabled if you attack someone who doesnt have it enabled
    16. EnderTeddy
I understand what he means by reading the full post, but I wish to understand what is meant by the exact sentence I asked for.
    17. WarlordGanti
"So that would somewhat over the case of PvPing the wilderness."
(he meant to say cover not over)

ender you need to be clearer i already explained what that sentence means.
    18. Puppy1337
Usually I'm not a big fan of factions or towny wars, but I actually like this.
    19. EnderTeddy
Yeah well now ya did. And now I understand what he meant... I do not know why I didn't think it might've been "cover" misspelled but whatever. Thanks lol.

Are you taking suggestions, by the way?
